Too many errors against the Raiders

No, this was not how the Mallards had envisioned the home season opener. In the pre-season game they beat the Raiders clearly, however they lost both the official double-header games. The loss was largely self-inflicted: the errors that they committed paved the way for the Raiders’ offensive. In comparison, they would have allowed only 6 instead of 15 in the first game, and 7 instead of 15 in the second, which theoretically would have been enough to win both games.

The batting progress looks better. 6 hits in each game may not look like much, but many more balls were hit but caught by the Raiders’ defense for outs. A late rally in the 5th inning of the first game was not enough to turn things around. There were some nice plays though, like 1st baseman Casey Langford’s catch up against the side fence, or the long sprint by the shortstop Jörg Baumgärtner deep into the left foul territory. Jürgen Schulz was very calm and focused in center field, making three fly outs.

The Mallards pitchers did a fair job, allowing only a few walks and wild pitches.
