The Erding Mallards starts off in the new season with one senior- and two youth teams.
The youngest group continues to grow nicely. The tossball team now has 21 kids in the ages between 5 and 12 years. They were excited by the first outdoor training sessions and are eagerly awaiting the first games. The team is coached by Melanie Benglan, supported by Markus Habeck, Moritz Christ and Benedikt Dangl.
The youth group however raises concerns. We lost several players so that the team is down to only 7 regular players. We are therefore participating non-competitive; this way the youngest junior players can complete the team together with 3-4 younger springer. We welcome any new player to our team! Team coach is Sven Bornhagen.
In Bavaria, the league system was reformed. The District League was discontinued; instead, an expanded State League was introduced. The clubs could choose between three different modes of play. The Mallards will play double headers of 2 x 5 innings without time limits this year, in a group consisting of München Caribes 4, Garching Atomics 3, Schwaig Red Lions 2, Freising Grizzlies 3 and Laub Raiders. Just shortly before start of the season, 8 new, experienced players joined the rooster. We aim for a considerably better results than last years (when the Mallards ended up in second last place). Head coach is Sven Bornhagen, supported by Phill Handy.
In addition, we also have a Barbeque team named “Crazy Duckheads“. This is a pure fun-team, mainly consisting of parents. The team plans to participate in a few Barbeque-tournaments in 2016. Chris Dornacher coordinates the team.
Last but not least: as the Garching Atomics are building a new ballpark, they will play some of their home games in Erding, both in the State Leage as in the Regional League. So, there will be great baseball in Erding almost every weekend!
