Shutout in the last game

The District League team of the Erding Mallards did not get a win in the last game of the season. The opponents from Bad Aibling / Rosenheim were simply too strong. Since the Mallards did not score one single run, the game ended as a shutout for the 89ers with 15:0 after 4 innings.

The Mallards did play better, than the naked numbers show. Especially starting Pitcher Jürgen Schulz had a good day on the mound.

Coach Phill Handy:
We had fun today. Jürgen has finally established himself as starting pitcher. However, we collected too many strikeouts to make any difference in the offence.

The 89ers‘ starting Pitcher Gerhard Gilk had a perfect control over the strike zone. With a good variation of throws – first high, then low – he fooled the Mallards batters over and over again.

Jörg Baumgärtner, who celebrated his birthday the same day, together with Jürgen Schulz, were the best players; only these two batted any hits. In the 4th inning the Mallards had a streak of bad luck offensively, as the opposing defense fielded two hard grounders.

Through this loss, the Erding Mallards landed at the bottom of the league standings. Even though this was the last regular game, baseball can still be seen in Erding: in October (date still to be determined), the Mallards are yet again playing host to the Bavarian District League Championship. Please stay tuned for further information.
