First win for the State League team

The State League team played a double header in Regensburg and scored their first win for the season.

In the first game, the Mallards showed patience at the plate and scored several walks, using mistakes of the Regensburg defense and stealing bases aggresively. Casey Langford, closer in the first game, didn’t give the Legionäre much chances to put the ball in play with his fastballs. Coupled with Rainer Hadersbeck’s solid defense, the Mallards won the game with 8:4.

The second game was tough for both teams. Now the Mallards commited several fielding errors and were further hurt by their weaker pitching. Despite pretty good hitting and baserunning and many errors by the Regensburg defense, they couldn’t prevent the home team from scoring 9 times in the 3rd inning. Jürgen Schulz was hit by a pitch on the elbow and had to be substituted. Stefan Göttler had a good day, and newcomer Max Hopfner scored his first run and had one hit. At the end, the home team won by 19:14.
