Last Saturday, the Mallards’ tossball team played in Schollbach against the Bad Aibling/Rosenheim 89ers.
Although the batting was improved compared to the weekend before, the young team was somewhat overwhelmed by the guest’s strong defense. Despite good defense on their own, and a homerun hit by Cedric Gürsoy, the first game was lost by 12:15.
Maybe the famous Mallards Burger in the break were a contributing factor? Nobody knows, but fact is that the young Mallards took charge of the second game from the start. With some lineup changes, putting Korbinian Vogel in the outfield, Jamie Hutton on second base and Paul Edrich on the shortstop position, the Mallards lit up the fireworks. In addition, Alexander Dornacher and Moritz Wiggerich, alternating in center field, and the left field manned by Simon Stotko, newcomer Tim Hilsendegen and Benedikt Schmid impressed.
The Mallards fought for every base and run, prevented the opponents from advancing and had the lead with 21:14 after four innings. As they could prevent the 89ers from scoring more than 5 runs in the 5th, the game was over after the 9th batter and the Mallards could celebrate their first win of the season with 21:19.
Player of the day was Christoph Schießl, who laid the groundwork with his good hitting. One of his hits scored 3 runs and landed Christoph on 3rd base. We’re all looking forward to seeing this great group of kids throughout the season!
